The Survey on the State of Information Security
The survey on the state of information security in Slovakia has shown that there is a rise in the importance of information security in Slovak companies. 82 % of the companies assess the level of security solutions as optimistic. These words have been said on January 22, 2009, during the press conference in the premises of Ernest & Young Company.
In cooperation with DSM (Data Security Management) magazine and National Security Authority, Ernst & Young company has carried out the survey on representative sample of middle and large companies of more than 100 employees from all main sectors. The survey was carried out from March to May 2008. The companies answered anonymously.
The numbers of new solutions in the field of information technologies increase everyday as well as new threats to currently secure systems. “To stop the investment into new solutions and to maintain the existing ones means intentionally undergo sever risks.
The fact that attention is focused only on those threats, or their consequences, which are relatively easily identified has to be considered,” said Mr. Peter Oravec, Director of Information Security and Electronic Signature Department of National Security Authority.
The outcome of the survey has shown that more than two thirds of the companies still do not possess any specialized personnel which would cover the information security as the priority. Blackout, SPAM, or hardware malfunctions belong to the most significant threats with the most distinctive identified impacts in this field.
Almost more than a third of all employees responsible for information security earn more than 1 825 € (55 000, - SK), which represents a significant increase when compared to 2004. The representative sample has shown that the companies have valued the most the relevant knowledge of problems of their security staff.
